Letter 18: Post-Meeting Corrections to the Written IEP
When to Use It
Send this letter within days of receiving the written IEP or meeting minutes, whenever the document does not match what the team agreed to at the table. Memories fade and staff change; the paper is what gets implemented. If you sent a same-day follow-up email after the meeting (Tool 55), quote it here - it is your record of the agreement, written the same day.
The fix can be simple. After the annual meeting, the parent and the district may agree to amend the IEP in writing without reconvening the team (34 C.F.R. § 300.324(a)(4)). You are entitled to a copy of the IEP at no cost, and to a revised copy with any amendments incorporated (34 C.F.R. §§ 300.322(f), 300.324(a)(6)).
Send it to: the director of special education, with a copy to the IEP team chair.
