When to Use It
Use this letter the moment an IEP meeting, eligibility meeting, or evaluation review is scheduled. D.C. law entitles you to every document the LEA intends to discuss or rely on at that meeting, delivered five business days before it, or within twenty-four hours if the meeting itself was scheduled on shorter notice (D.C. Code 38-2571.03(3), checked August 13, 2026). New York has no version of this right. It exists so you are never negotiating your child's program from a document you are seeing for the first time at the table.
