Free timeline cardThe evaluation and IEP timeline sections of the Illinois page from Volume 2 appear here word for word, with their citations. Law checked July 14, 2026.What the labels mean
1. Initial evaluation timeline
60 school days - not the federal 60 calendar days. The eligibility determination must be made and the IEP meeting completed no later than 60 school days after the date the parent signs written consent for the assessments (23 Ill. Admin. Code § 226.110). Two other Illinois-specific triggers: the district has 14 school days after receiving an evaluation request to decide whether an evaluation is warranted, and if fewer than 60 school days remain in the school year, the eligibility determination and IEP meeting must be completed before the first day of the following school year. 2. Eligibility-to-IEP timeline
Illinois collapses the two steps: the IEP meeting must be completed within the same 60-school-day window as the eligibility determination (§ 226.110). Separately, once the IEP is written, special education and related services must begin no later than 10 school attendance days after written notice is provided to the parents (105 ILCS 5/14-8.02(b)).
